Initial Consultation

I offer an initial 30-minute consultation over the telephone, at no charge to you. This is so that we can determine if my services are a good fit for your needs, and if you believe you will feel comfortable revealing sensitive material to me. There is no obligation to engage in therapy after this consultation. 

Frequency and length of sessions

All of my therapy sessions are held via a simple video-conferencing program called "Zoom." This requires nothing more than a good high-speed internet connection and a camera, which most laptops and desktop computers now come with as standard equipment. This allows you to meet with me in the privacy of your home, without the hassle of travel to an office.

Most people have therapy once a week for a 50-minute session. I find that weekly sessions are optimal for the beginning stages of therapy. I ask that we meet at least weekly for the first 4-6 weeks, so that we can establish a solid foundation upon which to work. After the first 4-6 weeks, therapeutic or financial issues may dictate more frequent or less frequent appointments. I do my best to work with you to determine the optimal schedule for your needs.   

Fees and Payment

The fee for individual psychotherapy  is $125.00 per 50-minute session and $100.00 per hour for extended sessions after the first hour. I offer a $30 discount for weekly clients who pay in full at the beginning of the month. I am available for telephone ‘check-in’ sessions in crisis situations, which are billed at the usual rates. Telephone conversations less than 10 minutes of duration are not charged, unless you need them on an ongoing basis.

I ask for full payment at the beginning of each session. To pay for your session or your monthly package, use the button at the bottom of this page. This will lead you to the payment page, where you can pay from any of your accounts via Stripe. If you prefer to pay by a check, we can work that out in our first session. Generally I ask that you submit your fee by Stripe at least 24 hours before your scheduled session.

Insurance Coverage

In general, I do not accept managed care coverage (HMO, PPO). This is mainly for ethical and confidentiality reasons. If you have questions about this, I would be happy to discuss it with you further.   

If you have health insurance that reimburses for therapy sessions, I will provide you a monthly statement to submit to your insurance provider. Before calling for an initial consultation or appointment, you should find out the following information from your insurance carrier:

  • Does my insurance plan include mental health benefits?

  • What is my deductible for mental health? Is my mental health deductible part of my overall medical deductible?

  • How much does my insurance cover per therapy session?

  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?

  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?
